London Calling is a fictional newspaper advertisement which was set up as if it were being printed for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. When I designed this ad, I was trying to appeal to young adults and mature individuals and couples. I tried to make the viewer feel the presence of London's nightlife by using darker colors and photos of an evening sky and a lamp-lit street. The photos are almost purely textural with just slivers of each being visible, and no recognizable figures or vehicles present.
The copy text is largely played down because I wanted the ad to be visually evocative first and foremost, and serve secondly an informative bit of text. I feel like the viewer is drawn into the ad by the imagery and cutout title. If this is the case, and they become invested enough, they will take the time to read the text.
